Tags used in RFID technology receive the radio waves sent by the reader and send the data they store to the reader. Tags which establish a wireless connection between the product and the data management system are basically of two types: passive and active tags. Passive tags do not have any internal power source; they operate with the power they get from the reader.

They can be used comfortably in places where reading range is narrow. Furthermore, since they do not have any internal power source, passive tags are smaller in size and they can be easily integrated to small objects such as ID cards, key rings, books, buttons, CDs and DVDs. Active tags have internal power source. There fore they can be used in wider areas, under water, in trucks, containers and many other environments where radio frequencies are transmitted more difficultly. They can be identified by the reader easily from hundreds of meters. Active tags can be used easily and safely in product tracking, cargo and all stages of supply chain.
